Progression on Longley Road

By   August 7, 2014

I went back to Rochester and visited Longley Road last week. Brought a huge smile to my face when I saw the street looking really lovely – for old times’ sake I did a little watering in the communal bath and took pictures that I will try to add here! I understand that the residents have a new strategy to get some more baths planted up and larger containers that need less watering and are capable of containing larger species – can’t wait to see the planned progression

More water issues!

By   July 9, 2014

Following on from my last post…the last few days have seen plenty of rain – where possible try to collect this in water butts cans, buckets etc. Plants really prefer this to tap water…
There is a chance that for some potted plants, especially those in small pots with lots of leaf cover, even huge amounts of precipitation from the sky won’t actually be getting water to the roots of the plants…so keep checking!! …I know I know…..I’m still singing from the same hymn sheet as always, but aware that the message is getting through!
Fantastic time to start enjoying the fruits and flowers of labours earlier in the year now – break out the Pimms perhaps!

Gibraltar Terrace Chatham Summer-ized

By   May 6, 2014

Saturday saw the culmination of some major planning for work on Gibraltar Terrace – New Road, Chatham Full Frontal gardeners.

Many months of planning saw the arrival of some very large recycled planting containers, planting medium and lovely plants – all were installed on the day by the residents – wonderful results that can now be enjoyed by many residents and visitors to Medway on this busy A2 road.

A wonderful effort by all the residents, organised and guided by Sandra and Linda. All wish to thank the Community Development Foundation for funding this project through Community First and to Medway Council for  offering support and working with us to bring the project to a successful conclusion.

Medway River Festival 6 July 2013

By   July 8, 2013

The Medway River Festival on Saturday…we were blessed with wonderful weather and lots of happy people.  The day was a huge success for Full Frontal and Chris Collins – the Blue Peter gardener who came to support us…he did lots of planting up Cosmos seedlings with children of all ages, who took them home to care for them.

Hopefully lots of new valuable connections with folks around Medway who want to clean up and green up their roads!

Medway River Festival 6 July

By   June 21, 2013

Dear Full Frontalers and Clive Road FF.

Just a reminder that this year, Full Frontal are having a presence at the Medway River Festival on 6th July – 10am – 4.30pm – on Chatham Waterfront. http://www.visitmedway.org/events/2013-medway-river-festival

FF will be running gardening activities for children.  Excitingly, we have the Celebrity Blue Peter gardener, Chris Collins coming along to support FF on the day.  He will have some lovely colourful children’s gardening tools to give away + there will be seed and plant giveaways too!

It would be great to know that some of you will be able to come down to the Festival to support us at the event… and if anyone from Clive Road can be there around the end of the day (4.30) , you could take home our FF banner to use in your street on 8th July for the RHS In Bloom assessor to be impressed by!!

RSVP. reply to my email fern@fullfrontal.org.uk if you plan to come down + feel free to forward this information to anyone else you think may be interested…..  It’s a great opportunity to co-opt some new Full Frontal streets!

Chelsea Fringe Event Gibraltar Terrace

By   May 28, 2013

Our Full Frontal Chelsea Fringe Kent event on Gibraltar Terrace went brilliantly yesterday…even the weather was kind to us!

The event was really well attended by the residents of the terrace, who all got together to plant up their frontals.  The event was brilliantly led by Sandra and Linda, and as you can see from the images, by the end of the day everyone had certainly contributed to making a huge difference to the look of the street…It was so good to see neighbours meeting and talking for the first time!…the wonder of plants – to be able to facilitate such important meetings! Full Frontal Planting Day for Gibraltar Terrace, Chatham, Kent:

“Gibraltar Terrace, on Chatham’s New Road was once the pride of Georgian Chatham, but today its pretty red brick façade looks out onto a starkly urban scene. This is the challenging terrain that Sandra Fowler and her fellow Full Frontal gardeners will be addressing on 19 May, when they hold a planting day that will transform this stretch of the A2 into a beacon of sustainable gardening.”
