Dead Heading

Dead heading….this is not a description of how you feel in the mornings!
Dead heading refers to cutting out any flowers that have gone over, or set seed. As soon as a flowering plant is allowed to set seed, it will stop flowering – so if you want lasting floral displays throughout the summer, be sure to cut/pinch out any dying flowers.
This should be not just the flower heads, but the whole of the stalk that the flower is on. With pansies, violas, nasturtiums, marigolds this can be an everyday job…lasting only a few moments, but the rewards are great!
Happy deadheading
